Mike Betts announces WGS Salt and Central Salt have agreed to merge their operations.

It is with great pride I announce that WGS Salt and Central Salt have agreed to merge their operations. The combined company will be able to significantly enhance the value it offers its customers with its reliable sources of salt supply, dedicated focus on the Commercial deicing market and our ability to provide the best service in the industry.

What this means for both companies’ customers is:

• the commercial snow removal contractor comes first,
• industry leading service from a team of professionals solely focused on the Commercial deicing market,
• expanded product offering that has a blend of high performance and low environmental impact,
• and greater access to more salt depots in more markets with additional sources of reliable salt supply.

For nearly 20 years, WGS Salt, has provided superb service to its Midwest clients. The team remains unchanged and will further compliment the Central Salt team. I will head up the division as Vice President & General Manager of Commercial Bulk Sales. Todd Martin will continue to service customers throughout the Midwest. Irrespective of the transaction and the name change, we remain fully committed to our customers and the services we offer through our BIG (Buyer Insurance Guarantee) Program.

Central Salt started in 1997 and has operations throughout Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. With the acquisition of WGS Salt, they will penetrate more deeply into WGS Salt’s coverage area. As a member of the Kissner Group, Central Salt sources salt from its owned mines in both Kansas and Detroit and through its partnership with other mines in both North America and South America.

Both Tom Peterson, President of Central Salt and I believe that bridging the gap in various markets that both Central Salt and WGS Salt serve, creates greater opportunity and adds significant value for customers of both companies.
