Calcium chloride deicing / dust control prills

MeltDown® Extreme Zero Calcium Chloride prills are an environmentally friendly, anhydrous calcium chloride solid. Calcium chloride is an effective deicer at low temperatures because of its ability to release heat and activate melting.

Calcium chloride's hygroscopic or water-attracting character also makes it an effective binder, which prevents salt and dust from being blown by passing cars. And, unlike sodium chloride brine, calcium chloride will not dry out.

Calcium chloride is available in 50-pound poly bags. In severe winter weather, prills are applied directly to roadways. However, a diluted solution of 15-24 percent can be used both as a dust suppressant and as a pre-wetting agent for wet-salt spreading. Pre-wetting with calcium chloride solution can reduce road salt consumption by up to 50 percent. This reduces the overall amount of rock salt storage and transportation required.
